A multi-engine oscillator: 24 synthesis engines in three banks, from virtual analogue to drums, an OLED oscilloscope

Behringer · 16 HP · 3U

Panel · 81.3 × 128.5 mm

Description

Behringer's multi-engine oscillator in 16 HP: 24 synthesis engines in three banks, chosen with BANK and MODEL and shown on ten LEDs in the bank's colour. The red bank holds virtual analogue, waveshaping, 2-operator FM, grains, additive, chords, speech, Karplus-Strong, super saw and wavetable; the green bank rain, noise, dust, modal strings, FM drum, bass drum, snare drum, hi-hat, cowbell and toms; the yellow bank four more, among them BX7, which takes a DX7 SysEx over USB. TIMBRE, HARMONICS and MORPH shape each engine, FREQ sets the pitch over 8 octaves or 14 semitones, and a low-pass gate opened by LEVEL and struck by TRIG sets the level and brightness.

Key features

  • 24 engines in red, green and yellow banks, the model kept in the patch
  • TIMBRE, HARMONICS, MORPH and FM under CV, with attenuators for TIMBRE, MORPH and FM
  • TRIG fires the internal envelope, strikes the low-pass gate and excites the physical and percussive models
  • LEVEL opens the low-pass gate; V/OCT from -3 V to +7 V
  • MODEL CV input for the red and green engines
  • OUT 1 and OUT 2, a variant of the main signal
  • OLED oscilloscope, USB-B for firmware and DX7 SysEx
  • 16 HP, 130 mA on +12 V, 10 mA on -12 V
