Chomul
Two chopper multipliers and a passive-aggressive XOR
Panel · 20.3 × 128.5 mm
Description
A switching, or chopper, multiplier for the modular, after Harald Bode's paper on multiplier-type ring modulators, which held such multipliers fit only to drive AC motors. Two on one panel: the upper one's inputs, swapped, feed the lower one's, and both outputs feed the inputs of a 'passive aggressive XOR'. One input (SW) usually takes a pulse, the other (MOD) anything; they shape CVs and envelopes well, with gaps and steps where the diodes' and FETs' on-voltage shows.
Key features
- Multipliers 1 and 2: SW and MOD in, OUT, each output with its LED
- Passive aggressive XOR: two IN, OUT
- 4 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
