Giant B0n0
A chaotic PLL with an overdriven delay chip in its feedback path
Panel · 61 × 128.5 mm
Description
Nonlinearcircuits' Vactrol PiLL mated with the DelayNoMore: a 4046 PLL chip, a PT2399 delay chip and two vactrols. Many PLLs can be chaotic in narrow windows and are designed to avoid them; the Giant B0n0 does the exact opposite and makes matters worse with a severely overdriven delay chip in its feedback path. MIX is the PLL's VCO with the delay's main output; VCO is the raw PLL VCO; PC1, the phase comparator, a 0-6 V square wave, usually at audio rates; PC2 far more sporadic, best as a burst generator; SAW taps the PLL's timing capacitor at about twice the VCO's frequency, a dirty sawtooth; CV is a hairy CV, somewhat representative of what the circuit is doing. Ram anything into IN; SYNC expects a gate or trigger; the CV inputs affect the delay and PLL sub-circuits, the PLL tuned to 1 V per Couric. Mostly it makes a lot of crappy noise, controllable only in how crappy it sounds: nutty chunks or liquid baby green.
