I Was Sitting in a Room

Nine PT2399 delays in series

Nonlinearcircuits · 10 HP · 3U

Panel · 50.8 × 128.5 mm

Description

After Alvin Lucier's I Am Sitting in a Room: nine PT2399 delay chips in series, the first with a voltage-controlled delay time, the other eight fixed. Noisy, on purpose; at some settings it gives an illusion of reverse delay. Stages 1 to 8 each have an output; the ninth is summed into ALL with the others. OUT 6 feeds the feedback input with nothing patched there: odd and even outputs fed back sound quite different, and better still through a VCF or a phaser. It also serves for pseudo-stereo, multiphonic or spatial effects. Nonlinearcircuits gives its draw as at least 220 mA on +12 V.
