MulCho
A 1U chopper multiplier, after Harald Bode's switching multipliers
Panel · 30.5 × 39.7 mm
Description
A 1U version of the chopper multipliers in ChoMul, inspired by an article of Harald Bode on ring modulators and multipliers: Bode held that switching, or chopper, multipliers were only good for driving AC motors and not for modular synths, so here is one for a modular synth. Usually one input is a pulse signal, but anything can be patched in; it works nicely with CV signals and is good at creating interesting envelopes. On a scope, gaps or steps show where the diodes' and FETs' inherent turn-on voltage has an effect.
Key features
- Two inputs, IN and IN, and an output, OUT
- A 3 mm LED on the output
- 6 HP, 1U Intellijel format; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel)
