Shades (2020)

Mutable Instruments' triple attenuator, attenuverter, offset generator and mixer, 2020 panel: three channels, each switched between attenuator and attenuverter, chained into a mixer through their outputs, with two lamps per channel for the signal's positive and negative halves.

Key features

• Three channels, each an attenuator (gain 0 to 1) or an attenuverter (gain -1 to +1) by its function switch
• With nothing patched, an input receives +5 V or +10 V (a jumper at the back): the channel becomes an adjustable offset
• An unpatched output passes its channel to the next one: output 3 carries the sum of all three channels
• Two lamps per channel: the upper one shows the positive half of the signal, the lower one the negative half
• 100k input impedance, all inputs DC-coupled; low-distortion op-amps and 0.1 % resistors
• Made from May 2020 to March 2022; the design is open source
