Veils (2020)

Mutable Instruments' second quad VCA, from 2020, in 10 HP: four voltage-controlled amplifiers with a gain slider, a response curve from exponential to linear and an offset on the gain CV, their outputs chained into a mixer.

Key features

• Four VCAs, each with a lit slider setting the gain CV amount, or the gain itself when no CV is patched; its LED glows with the gain
• Response curve continuously variable from exponential to linear, with gains above +20 dB in exponential mode
• Offset knob adding 0 to 8 V to the gain CV, to use bipolar modulation sources directly
• Outputs daisy-chained: an unpatched output adds its channel to the next one, up to a mix of all four on output 4
• DC-coupled inputs for audio or CV; gain CV inputs normalled to +8 V
• Lamps showing each output's level and polarity
• Made from October 2020 to December 2022; the design is open source
