329 Phase Flange

The Aries 329 Phase/Flange, after the ARP Quadra's ten-stage phase shift network

Nonlinearcircuits · 12 HP · 3U

Panel · 61 × 128.5 mm

Description

Based on the Aries 329 Phase/Flange, all 0805 and SMD with a different choice of semiconductors, otherwise close to the original. The original's schematic has a component PD10 that turned out to be a resin block ten-stage phase shift network of the late 1970s (the Tau pipe phaser had two, the ARP Quadra's phaser one); the ARP Quadra service manual shows its insides, and this module uses them, with matched BCM847 transistor pairs in place of the long-gone LM394. Two audio inputs are mixed through the IN level knob; FREQ sets the fundamental frequency, Q the resonance, with a CV input, a linear CV input (LINCV) and two 1V/O inputs, one through the 1V/OCT attenuator; INVERT swaps the phase of the signal fed to the network. PHASE (the phased signal), AUX and MAIN out.

Key features

  • Two IN, two 1V/O, CV and LINCV in; PHASE, AUX and MAIN out
  • IN (level), Q, 1V/OCT (attenuator) and FREQ knobs
  • An INVERT switch
  • 12 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
