Buchla-style shift register: four CVs and nine gates

Nonlinearcircuits · 10 HP · 3U

Panel · 50.8 × 128.5 mm

Description

After part of the Buchla Source of Uncertainty, modified for four CV and nine gate outputs: data shifted down eight stages at each clock. It needs a clock and a signal at one data input at least; any signal crossing 1 V will do. The first and last stages, XORed, feed DATA 2 with nothing patched there, for complex patterns. STROBE makes it an 8-bit sample and hold: data reaches the outputs only while it is high. The CVs are related but different, each fed part of the one before. Its LEDs show the data moving through the stages.

Key features

  • CLOCK, DATA 1, DATA 2 and STROBE in
  • The eight stage gates 000 to 111 and SUPER SERIAL out; CV1 to CV4 out
  • Nine lamps
  • 10 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
