Chaos
A random sampler after Mutable Instruments' Marbles: a warped clock and its triggers, three random voltages and Y, quantised to scales
Panel · 91.4 × 128.5 mm
Description
Behringer's random sampler in 18 HP, its engines based on Mutable Instruments' Marbles. The t section draws gates at random from a clock, its own (RATE, its RATE RANGE dividing or multiplying it by 4) or one at CLOCK, which JITTER warps: t2 carries the clock and BIAS, with its BIAS TYPE (Flip, Ratio or Alternating), shares the triggers between t1 and t3. The X section draws three random voltages, X1, X2 and X3, clocked by t1, t2 and t3 or at its own CLOCK: SPREAD sets their distribution, BIAS leans them up or down, STEPS smooths them or quantises them to a scale, and CONTROL REACTION sets how the three follow the controls; RANGE sets 0 to 2 V, 0 to 5 V or -5 to +5 V. Y is a fourth voltage, a division of X2. FEEDBACK and LENGTH loop what was drawn, from 1 to 16 steps, for the t section, the X section or both.
Key features
- A t section of three triggers from a warped clock, three bias types
- An X section of three random voltages and Y, smoothed or quantised to six preset scales or one recorded
- FEEDBACK and LENGTH loop the random sequence from 1 to 16 steps
- CV inputs for BIAS, RATE, JITTER, SPREAD, STEPS and FEEDBACK
