Coupled Comparators
Three coupled two-stage comparators and a hyperchaos
Panel · 40.6 × 128.5 mm
Description
Three dual-stage comparators and an unusual hyperchaos circuit. Each input is compared with another's signal: 1 with 3, 2 with 1, 3 with 2; the results come out at 1A, 2A and 3A, and pass through an amplitude stage (SET) to be compared again with the original signal, out at 1B, 2B and 3B. Turned up, SET makes B very like A, now and then a double beat or a missed one; turned down, B is much busier. Three outputs of the chaos circuit feed the inputs' switch pins, so the module runs with nothing patched and roughly syncs to a clock or signal patched in; they are out at DOL, KEF and DAG. Twin star-type strange attractors, a comparator as the nonlinear element. A band in a box: gates for drums, chaos CVs in sync for VCOs, VCFs and VCAs. Unpredictable but not random. Its words light from behind.
Key features
- IN 1 to IN 3 in, with their level knobs; 1A, 2A, 3A and 1B, 2B, 3B out
- SET 1 to SET 3 knobs
- DOL, KEF and DAG: the hyperchaos' outputs, also fed to the inputs' switches
- 8 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
