Description

WMD's curved plate and cymbal synthesizer: no samples, an exciter and a model built from delay lines and digital filters, set by controls named after the stick and the cymbal, with an audio input into the model. On WMD's site since March 2019.

Key features

  • SIZE sets the cymbal's size (decay time and its frequency response); PITCH the pitch and overall spectrum; DEFORM its thickness, thinner and more crashy clockwise
  • DECAY applies frequency independent damping (no envelope, no VCA); TONE frequency dependent damping, brighter clockwise
  • EXCITE sets the stick, from a nylon tip through a wood tip to a flatter strike angle
  • MODEL switch: a curved plate with a centre hole, the same with ghost transients, or a plate without the hole
  • EDGE and MID choose where the exciter strikes, both together the bell; VELOCITY, CHOKE, and INPUT for audio into the engine
  • CV inputs 100k ohm, summed with the knobs, full sweep 5 V; gate threshold 2 V; output 20 Vpp, 4.0 ms latency at most
