Kraken

WMD's physical modeling snare drum: no samples, a resonator built from delay lines, digital filters and noise, tuned by controls named after the drum itself, with three distortion characters and an optional pitch shifter on the output. Introduced in 2021 (manual dated July 2021).

Key features

• SHELL interpolates between 32 shell models; LOW TUNE sets the fundamental, PITCH offsets some of the shell's harmonics
• OVERTONE and SNARES set the damping of the clean and of the noisy harmonics; DECAY sets the internal envelope
• MODEL switch: repeatable digital noise, analog noise that changes on every hit, or a pitch shifter controlled by PITCH
• WRECK switch and CV: hard clipping, wavefolding or quantization distortion
• HEAD and RIM gate inputs trigger their own exciters, both together a rim shot; ACCENT and VELOCITY inputs
• CV inputs 100k ohm, summed with the knobs, full sweep 5 V; gate threshold 2 V; output 22 Vpp, 4.0 ms latency at most
