Dichotomy Paradox

Sub-octave cross-product divider, XOR and AND

Nonlinearcircuits · 10 HP · 3U

Panel · 50.8 × 128.5 mm

Description

After Lester Ludwig's Cross Product Module (Electronotes 98) by way of NLC's 4U Divine CMOS: two signals each divided by 2, 4, 8 and 16 by a 4520 dual counter, the matching divisions XORed and ANDed, all mixed into two outputs, with a gate out for every division. Each counter has a rising-edge and a falling-edge clock input, all four on the panel, for glitchy, stuttering patterns, or an enable on one of them. Thick, animated audio from two slightly detuned VCOs, or complex patterns from gates. The knobs are attenuverters, off at their centre; SUM swings to ±10 V with several divisions mixed. Each channel's LEDs shine through lenses in the panel.

Key features

  • A RISE, A FALL, B RISE and B FALL in
  • XOR and AND rows: SUM and the /2, /4, /8 and /16 gates out
  • /2, /4, /8 and /16 attenuverters for XOR and for AND
  • Eight lens windows (drawn unlit)
  • 10 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
