Encephalo Adjuster

A 24-stage LDR phaser with positive and negative feedback

Nonlinearcircuits · 8 HP · 3U

Panel · 40.6 × 128.5 mm

Description

A 24-stage phase shifter built on LDRs lit by LEDs in a lightproof black box: a very smooth phaser with some angry bits when pushed. Its unusual feature is the feedback path, positive and negative: feedback is zero with REGEN in the middle, negative to the left and positive to the right, or set by CV through its own VCAs; it self-oscillates at the extremes. Outputs after 6, 12 and 18 stages as well as the full 24. A trimpot inside sets the PHASE pot's operating range. The name comes from a mind control device in a few of A. E. van Vogt's novels.

Key features

  • IN1, REGEN IN(6), REGEN CV and PHASE CV in; OUT6, OUT12, OUT18 and OUT
  • IN1, WET/DRY, PHASE, PHASE CV, REGEN and REGEN CV knobs
  • Feedback zero at REGEN's centre, negative to the left, positive to the right
  • 8 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
