Description

The modDemod is a dual balanced modulator: the bare diode-ring circuit once used for single side band radio, before it became the ring modulator, twice, so a signal can be modulated by the first and demodulated by the second. Each circuit multiplies a Program by a Carrier; the first one's output feeds the second one's Program input when neither is patched. It draws no current.

Key features

  • Two identical balanced modulators, each with a Program input, a Carrier input and an output
  • The first circuit's output normalled to the second circuit's Program input, for modulation then demodulation in one patch
  • Passive diode ring with transformers: driving the inputs harder soft-clips the diodes and colours the sound
  • Low carrier bleed for the circuit; a CV at the Carrier input makes a rough VCA
  • Passive: no power, 4 HP
  • Retired
