Multiband Distortion Processor

Four frequency bands, each through a fuzz and a vactrol VCA, summed

Nonlinearcircuits · 18 HP · 3U

Panel · 91.4 × 128.5 mm

Description

The input is split into four frequency bands (below 200 Hz, 200-900 Hz, 900 Hz-4 kHz, above 4 kHz) by a Buchla 194 fixed band-pass filter; each band goes through a Shin-ei SY2 fuzz, then a blend pot mixing the distorted signal with the clean one, to a Korg 3200 vactrol VCA under its own CV. Each band's signal is on the panel, and the four are summed to the two OUT ALL jacks. Different CVs on the VCAs bring the bands in and out of the mix, for new sounds and harmonics; feeding a band's output back into the spare input is interesting too.

Key features

  • Four bands (<200, 200-900, 900-4k, >4k): distort, blend and gain knobs, a CV input and an output each
  • Two inputs; two OUT ALL outputs
  • 18 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
