Sloth DK

A very slow chaos circuit with its large capacitors through the panel, three never-repeating CVs

Nonlinearcircuits · 6 HP · 3U

Panel · 30.5 × 128.5 mm

Description

The Sloth, a simple chaos circuit putting out three slowly varying and never repeating CV signals: not random, as the chaos stays within a bounded region, moving in or between two strange attractors or wells. This one is really slow, taking 8 to 20 hours to complete a chaotic orbit, its two large 10000 uF capacitors sticking through the panel. The outputs range between ±4 V, mostly around ±2 V; MIX OUT is a mix of the two main outputs through the MIX LEVEL pot, a little hotter and more complex than either. No inputs and no way to control it. A bipolar LED on the panel.

Key features

  • OUT1, OUT2 and MIX OUT, three CVs taking 8 to 20 hours per orbit
  • MIX LEVEL knob
  • Two 10000 uF capacitors through the panel; a bipolar LED
  • 6 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
