Tides (original)
Tidal modulator
Panel · 71.1 × 128.5 mm
Description
Mutable Instruments' first tidal modulator, from 2014, in 14 HP: a function generator that makes a voltage rise and fall, once or in a loop, as an envelope, an LFO or an oscillator.
Key features
- Three modes: single-shot attack/decay, sustained attack/sustain/release, and looping (LFO or oscillator)
- Three frequency ranges: low (20 minutes to 5 Hz), medium (0.05 Hz to 300 Hz) and high (8 Hz to 10 kHz)
- SHAPE, SLOPE and SMOOTHNESS set the segments' curves, the rise/fall ratio, and a low-pass filter or wavefolder
- FREEZE input stops the oscillator and holds its output; LEVEL input acts as a VCA on the output
- Unipolar and bipolar outputs, with HIGH and LOW TIDE gates at the end of the rise and of the fall
- Made from March 2014 to April 2018; the design is open source
