4seq

A 4-step sequencer stepping forwards and backwards, two CV outputs counting in opposite directions, and a clock divider

Nonlinearcircuits · 8 HP · 3U

Description

A minimalised hybrid of the bindubba 1 and 3 sequencers: four stages with a forwards/backwards control, which allows quite complex sequences and patterns. Its two CV outputs step in opposite directions: if outX counts 1, 2, 3, 4, outY counts 4, 3, 2, 1, each knob setting one stage of X and the mirrored stage of Y (x0/y3 to x3/y0). A gate into u/d changes the stepping direction. A clock divider gives gate outputs at /2, /4, /8 and /16 of the clock, each with its LED. Gates and triggers are preferred, but any signal crossing 1 V triggers the clock or u/d inputs; complex waveforms may give erratic behaviour, which might be a good thing.

Key features

  • Four stage knobs, x0/y3, x1/y2, x2/y1 and x3/y0
  • clock and u/d in; outX and outY out, stepping in opposite directions
  • /2, /4, /8 and /16 clock divider gate outputs, each with its LED
  • 8 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
