René (Classic)
Cartesian sequencer
Panel · 172.7 × 128.5 mm
Description
The René Classic is the first René (released in December 2010), the Cartesian sequencer named for René Descartes: sixteen knobs tune the voltages of a four by four grid, and an X axis and a Y axis, each clocked or addressed by voltage on its own, choose the location played. The path through the sixteen steps is no longer a line, so the patterns go far beyond sixteen steps.
Key features
- X and Y clock, modifier and CV inputs; X-CV and Y-CV with an attenuator, normalled to +5 V
- A quantized output (QCV), an unquantized one (CV), and a gate output per axis (G-X, G-Y)
- A touch grid beside the knobs, its sensitivity adjustable, and six programming pages stepped through with PGM1: ACCESS, X-GATE, Y-GATE, X-FUN, Y-FUN and Q
- Counting forward, backward, pendulum or in snake patterns, and logic (AND, OR, XOR) between clocks and modifiers
- The scale of the quantized output, and four stored sets of voltages
- The knobs light to show the programming
- Retired, followed by the René Mk2
