Stochaos

Gates and CVs from pink noise, chaos, or one against the other

Nonlinearcircuits · 8 HP · 3U

Panel · 40.6 × 128.5 mm

Description

Gates and control voltages from pink noise, from chaos, or from pink noise against chaos, chosen by a switch: STOCH, CHAOS or BOTH. Its base is a 1980 patent, US4208938, a Random Rhythm Pattern Generator, with clock and reset inputs in place of its fifth section and XOR gates in place of its AND gates, so several gates can be high at once. Feed a gate to IN, a reset to RST if you like; everything else is an output. PINK and CHAOS come straight off the internal random and chaotic circuits; CV1 and CV2 go through a difference rectifier for CV3 and CV4, so CV3 is mainly negative. 1 to 8 are gate outputs, each with its LED, and so is STOCH, from an earlier stage, with longer gates.

Key features

  • IN and RST in; PINK, CHAOS, CV1 to CV4 out
  • Eight gate outputs, 1 to 8, each with its LED, and STOCH
  • A STOCH / BOTH / CHAOS toggle
  • 8 HP; Nonlinearcircuits publishes no current draw, depth or assembled price (it sells the DIY PCB and panel), and ModularGrid lists none
